Crisis in El Paso: May Allah Protect Shaykh Yaser Birjas
Source: Al Maghrib Forums

Bismillah
Assalam Alaikum Brothers & Sisters,

Regrettably we share with you all the news that our beloved instructor Shaykh Yaser Birjas has been detained by the federal government this Thursday morning.

While little is known yet about the reasons for this detainment we have been assured that there is no direct blame on Shaykh Yaser or the AlMaghrib Institute at all.

From what we know at this point the issue is related directly to another Islamic organization that sponsored him when he first came to the US and they are under investigation. That organization (which we will not name here) has allegedly been guilty of financial mismanagement and improper bookkeeping in a post 9/11 era.

We repeat that is only an allegation at this time.

From what we gather from local sources Shaykh Yaser will be held for some time as these matters are completely unpredictable in the modern times we live in. Shaykh Yaser has an attorney who is currently filing for a hearing and attempting to post bond however he has not been given any exact timelines or specifics at this time.

Yasir Qadhi reminded us that the key for us at this time is du'aa (for Sh Yaser and all the Muslims) and patience on our parts. Surely expressing angry sentiments or falling into vain talk on the forums will bring no benefit and such wasteful posts will be deleted.

After consulting our fellow staff and instructors we decided to post this news on the forums and the intention is to notify the public and not to simply upset people who care for the Shaykh.

If anyone has advice or contacts that can help then please share that with us ASAP by emailing
manager@almaghrib.org or info@almaghrib.org
